Can't log in to R6400 after putting it into AP mode
To expand on the title: I'm using a Nighthawk X6 as my primary router, connected to the modem downstairs. Since this is in a lower corner of the house, I decided to add my old R6400 into the mix...

I tried that just now. Same results - internet works, I can ping the 6400, but navigating to the address in the browser results in a simple "this site can't be reached" error.

a couple questions.
What is the x6 connected to? (gateway/modem)
What ip address is the x6?
what ip address is the r6400?

Sorry for the late reply; been out of town and haven't had time to look at this.
We've got a pretty run of the mill fiber modem handling the optical to copper conversion (prior to that we had cable internet - different modem, exact same problem though).
It's your typical x.x.1.1 address for the X6, and x.x.1.2 for the 6400.

and you've confirmed that is indeed the r6400's IP address in the X6?

Yes. That's why I'm so baffled by this.

So what is the router on your network?
X6? What that? X6 is like ACXXX. Meaningless.
I can find about half a dozen Netgear models that boast X6 wifi.
Sadly, "run of the mill fiber modem" is also too vague to mean much. Someone else turn up here recently with one of those. It turned out to have a built-in router.

Sorry - X6 R8000. Modem is not also a router (my ISP is very clear about needing a router, as the box they give you is only a modem. They really bash you over the head with that on your website, emails before installation, and the tech they sent out to install it). And the modem I bought back when I used cable was just that - a modem. Not a modem / router combo.
I haven't done a factory reset on anything yet because the entire goal of this post was to see if I was simply doing something wrong before having to start from scratch. Or if it's even as much as something like a known bug that prevents you from logging in once a device has been placed in AP mode.
