My issue is now solved as I installed the previous router firmware version (46), and I can now access the site which was giving me the error message. My thanks to all who offered their recommendations, but all it took was to revert to the previous firmware version.

Correct. What a reset does do is to erase settings that may be block you from various things and that may interfere with operations.
You don't want to get back to the original firmware. That is bound to be out of date.
If you really want to do that, you can manually "update" the firmware with the original version.

No idea what that means.
What DexterJB is suggesting is that you unplug your PC from the router and plug it into the modem instead.
To make this test, unplug PC from router, unplug router from modem, plug PC into modem.
If your setup makes that difficult, then you have a badly arranged system. It is important to be able to swap connections between various devices.
