CBR40 Firmware file is corrupt on the website
Could someone please confirm for me the firmware file here is corrupt: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/CBR40.aspx#download

Twice earlier yesterday I downloaded new firmware for my RBR50 & RBS50. The downloaded zip files contained .IMG files which worked perfectly to update the 2 units firmware. As you note the downloaded zip for the CBR40 contains a .CHK file. In the old DOS days that indicated a bad checksum in the file. Are you suggesting that the CHK file can be used to update a firmware?

Never mind. I see it here now:

Netgear does indeed use both .IMG & .CHK as valid file extensions for a firmware updates. Guess I have been around too long. CHK used to mean trouble.

That is what it said in the page that I pointed you at and was one reason why I posted it here.

The .IMG thung also throws some people who try to click it and reel back in shock when their PC sees it as a disk image.
There just aren't enough three character extensions out there.

Perhaps if your router were running MSDOS, then your concern might
have been justified. But it's not. In the words of the philosopher
Williams, "If you don't think too good, don't think too much."

bare-essentials link which I had posted earlier. Apparently you also
skipped the link to that older thread, too.> There just aren't enough three character extensions out there.
17576 (46656, if you add the digits) covers many needs, but many of
them are not usefully suggestive.
