Configure R6400 to accept a Linksys wrt54g 1.1 as an access point

I have my R6400 as a primary router. I want to use a Linksys wrt54g v1.1 as an Access Point.

Using an ethernet off my R6400 I get speeds above 200ghtz.  I have done all the  recommended setup for the Linksys as an AP I can find, but  my speed on the Linksys AP (on ethenet abt 50 ft away) is only around 50ghtz.

I  must be missing something.  Any ideas? Do I need to  configure a setting on the R6400 also?
Thanks.

Is that accurate?  R6400 or R6400v2?  Look for "Model" on the product
label.  Firmware version?  Connected to what?

       Ok.

With my weak psychic powers, I have no idea what you "can find", or
what you did after you found it.

"speed" of what?  Between what and what?  Measuered how?  "ghtz"?
    "Gb/s"?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.
    Look for the LED descriptions.

What does the (LAN) port-status LED on the R6400[vX] indicate for the
connection between the R6400[vX] and the Linksys WRT54G?

Were you expecting to get speeds above 100Mb/s through the WRT54G?
Did you look at its specs?

I can't immediately think of any.

With my weak psychic powers, I have no idea what you "can find", or
what you did after you found it.  Changed last group in IP address to .1.200;  Made SSID same as intended R6400 address, "wireless 2.4"; Disabled DHCP.

"speed" of what?  Between what and what?  Measuered how?  "ghtz"?
"Gb/s"?  Opps, I meant 200+ mbps from R6400 to /thru any of my  Ethernet ports.

Look for the LED descriptions.    I have the book that came with it.

What does the (LAN) port-status LED on the R6400[vX] indicate for the
connection between the R6400[vX] and the Linksys WRT54G? If I connect my laptop to the Ethernet port, running to the desired room, the speed is 200+ and the R6400 LED is off. If I connect the WRT54G and access my laptop by wireless the spped is <30 and the LED is amber.

Trying to use a Linksys-G router as an access point (hardwired to my R6400).

Looking it up online it says: " Shares a single Internet connection (10/100 WAN) with 4 Ethernet wired (10/100 switched LAN";   "Max. Link Rate:54 Mbps".    I'm not sure what that means.

Can  someone help me understand how that affects that it transmits?

        > Is this why my Ethernet speed coming out of the Liksys is under 54mbps? I figured that meant speed of the wireless but not through the ethernet coming out of it.
        Thanks
