Connect older HP Pavilion with Windows 7 to network via wifi
I need to connect an older Windows 7 laptop wirelessly to my HP All-In-One desktop. I can't make the connection. I've tried just about every option in the Network and Sharing control panel. No luck. ...

I have a Spectrum router and an Netgear AC1600 Modem on my HP All-in-one Pavilion computer. Everything works fine. The WIFI works fine in the house - others can use it easily from their devices.
However, I need to be mobile for a ZOOM presentation and wanted to be able to use my old HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows 7.0. I have checked the Control Panel on the laptop and have set up (as far as I know) the Modem to match what I have on the desktop unit. However, it does not connect. I've run through the troubleshooting, and am told all is well. However, again, I cannot get to the Internet via WIFI through the Netgear.
From what one person has told me, I might have an older adaptor chip in the laptop. Will be taking it to a local computer shop Tuesday.

Try again? "Spectrum" might be your ISP. Your "a Spectrum router"
should have a maker and model number, and it's probably a modem or a
modem+router.

"AC1600" is a (wireless) speed, not a model number. Look for "Model"
on the product label. I'd guess that it's a router (not a "Modem"),
but, with an actual model number, guessing would not be needed.
What, exactly, on each of these gizmos is connected to what, exactly?
(Hint: If a device has different types of ports, then "connected to
device" is not enough detail.)

With my weak psychic powers, I can't see any of that.

See "not a useful problem description [...]", above.

Regarding "cannot", see "can't", above.

"older" than what? I'm typing this on a Macbook from "Late 2008".
You'd need to get much older than that for "older" to be a fatal
problem.
