D6400 ISP connection issue
Hi, I'm a long time Netgear user in the UK; my ISP is Plusnet and I've been with them for about 8 years, on FTTC (VDSL). I've been using the D6400 as a single-box solution (modem + router) for some...

Why are you using that address?
What happens if you try the correct way in?
Did you reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash?
New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.
So while it isn't guaranteed to fix problems a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have issues with new firmware.
You can reduce the hassle of reconfiguring all those settings by creating a backup of your settings before you reset. Then if something is still broken after the reset, and the new firmware has not fixed it, you can restore the device to its pre-reset state.
You could even try restoring the settings even if the new firmware has fixed the problems, but be prepared for the restore to also bring back your problems.
You have posted your message in the section of this community given over to General WiFi Routers. (This is easily done, given Netgear's complicated community structure.)
Many questions apply to different types of device, so there may be useful responses here, but you might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
DSL Modems & Routers
I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Not I. Instead of looking at the "Connection Status" page, have you
looked at the "Show Statistics" page? What do the relevant LED
indicators (DSL, Internet) indicate?> [...] all lights on the router show as they should.
That would mean more if it said which LEDs do what, exactly, rather
than "I'm happy with the LEDs."> I recently updated the firmware on the D6400 from V1.0.0.094 to

problems began after the firmware update, then I'd certainly want to run
the older-firmware experiment.> [...] I'm reluctant to potentially lose that for hours or worse!
Your choice, but when did you ever lose that kind of time on a
firmware update?> [...] I reloaded my configuration from a saved .cfg file and voila!

the "Connect >" control.

thing which specifies a page on a web site?)Presumably, he's using it because it shows him what he wants to see.
Around here (D7000[v1], V1.0.1.78_1.0.1), that's the "Connection Status"
page (with the "Connect >" control).> What happens if you try the correct way in?
Actually "correct", or "according-to-michaelkenward-correct"? I'd
expect the same outcome, but with more effort required to get to the
information of interest using the "according-to-michaelkenward-correct"
method.A settings reset (and manual reconfiguration) might be worth a try,
but I wouldn't bet much on it.- coldnebraskabluJul 20, 2021Aspirant
Thanks both for the replies, i'll try and clarify:

"Show Statistics" indcates that the LAN has devices attached but the WAN has no connection. The DSL section shows the expected upload and download speed. The indicator lights: the power & DSL would both be green. The internet light, I can't say for sure but I would imagine it would not be green in this instance (will take more notice if it happens again).

Your choice, but when did you ever lose that kind of time on a firmware update?
The reason I raised this call is precisely because of that - everything looks right, and there's no indication anywhere that I can see of a problem. If I roll back the firmware, type everything in correctly and still can't connect, then who know's how long it will take to get back on.

That is the URL for the "Connection Status" dialog - you can hit "Connect" or "Disconnect" from there. You can access this dialog from the "Advanced" tab. This is the only way for me to try and connect if my D6400 doesn't connect automatically.
Did you reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash?
No; I've never needed to before, and best I can see the instructions don't suggest that I should. But, I can see its an obvious call. I have spare D6400, so I may try rolling back the firmware and resetting to factory settings on that, see where it gets me.
I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.
That's great, thanks!

Yes, have checked the online documentation.

I understand the reluctance to reset. But it is high on the list of things that Netgear's own team suggests, even though it is more a matter of witchcraft than a technically informed strategy.
A reset does not have to be final. Save the settings and if you get nowhere you can restore them if the reset achieves nothing.
I also have a D6400. I gave up on it when I acquired some decent router stuff. In modem-only mode the D6400 took so long to connect after power cuts – we live out in the sticks, where the weather has a habit of bringing down power lines – that the routers behind it timed out and I had a dead network. That's what pushed me into the DM200.
