desktop app crashing and password question

I upgraded my anti-virus program a few days ago and since then the netgear genie app on my Mac (ver 2.4.42) is crashing. The only way I can get it to launch is if I restart my computer in safe mode with all the extensions off so I think there may be an extension conflict with the other program.
The modem works fine and there is no problem connecting to the internet.
I downloaded the netgear genie app to my phone to use that instead of the desktop app but when I try to log in using "password" (its printed on the bottom of the modem) as the password it says that is wrong . How do I find out what the password is?
