I didn't have patience to deal with this issue for over a month. I bought a new router. I probably should have kept the Netgear one but I was so disgusted, I threw it in the trash. It was 5 years old though, so it got plenty of use.

MKX,
DNS fixed FW has not yet been released. Hopefully in a few days.

Wow, read through everything, and sad thing is I feel like i am going to have to buy a new router which means i am going to have to port forward everything and set up IP reservations again. This blows, I have had netgear for everything for about 20 years and this dns probe bs is starting to annoy me, has any have an update to this? I tried every troubleshoot in the pervious comments but still have not had any luck.

Rasty,
I spent years running DD-WRT and got sick of how buggy it was. I did try tomato for a bit, but prefered DD-WRT interface at the time.
Issue now is that Tomato does not run on my R8300.
If I go away from NETGEAR for routing, i would probably move to OPNSense on dedicated hardware and make my 8300 an AP. Probably with be my geekout project after this hunting season.

Hi, same Here. I have following three routers with exactly same issue, 3 differents ISPs.
R6400v1 FW 1.0.1.74 - Long term issue, present also in previous versions of Firmware.
R6400v2 FW 1.0.4.120 - Same issue, occurs in last 4 Firmware versions.
R8000 FW 1.0.4.76 - Same issue, occurs in last 2 Firmware versions.
Seem that recent fw updates broke most of Broadcom based routers.
I can't rely that Netgear will release fix soon, based on the my previous experiences. So downgrade is only option this time, but downgrade means that you are running on outdated firmware without fix for major security vulnerabilities.
SW support is the weakest part of Netgear brand.
This issue is mentioned in many threads of this forum across many devices.
Regards,
m.

I couldn't wait around for months for a firmware update that might fix it. I bought a new router. Not Netgear. Their support is atrocious. They read off a script and have very little knowledge on how a router actually works. And in the end, when they are at the end of the script and your router still doesn't work they tell you to contact your ISP because it's their problem.
