Does buying a modem affect the need of a Netgear nighthawk router

Generally, you can connect at most one device direvtly to a modem,
either an actual client device or a NAT router. "other devices"
suggests that you wouldn't be satisfied with one client device.

- Thank you that helps a lot. The reason I didn’t go into detail on what modem I was buying and what router is because I didn’t think it mattered for this question as I was just wondering whether or not you can plug a lan cable from a PS4 to a modem.
