Does buying a modem affect the need of a Netgear nighthawk router
Hey, I’m buying a Netgear modem and I currently have a nighthawk router. The main reason I got into all this is because my home WiFi is under too much pressure from other devices so I can’t game wi...

Actual model numbers would be more helpful than ambiguous/vague
descriptions.

Generally, you can connect at most one device direvtly to a modem,
either an actual client device or a NAT router. "other devices"
suggests that you wouldn't be satisfied with one client device.

Sorry what do you mean by model numbers like their serial codes or just the model I’m using for instance nighthawk ac2600

I don’t have my modem yet so I can’t give you serial codes but if what you’re talking about is just what modem it is then I can tell you
- FinnBJun 03, 2018AspirantThe modem I’m getting is a:
NETGEAR DM200-100EUS High-Speed Broadband DSL (VDSL/ADSL) Modem
Hopefully this is what you’re looking for - FinnBJun 03, 2018AspirantIt says model R7800 and it says nighthawk X4S. Also would you suggest sending back the modem then since it has problems?
- FinnBJun 03, 2018AspirantI don’t have a current modem as I was planning on getting the Netgear one to complete my setup so I’ve been waiting for it to arrive. Do you know of any other modems that are within the same price range and don’t have any issues?
- FinnBJun 03, 2018AspirantMy home WiFi just uses the router provided by my provider.
- FinnBJun 03, 2018AspirantDo you think Netgear will release a fix for the issue that was stated by that user soon because if so I might just keep it and not open the box until I know they’ve fixed the issue.
- FinnBJun 03, 2018AspirantCase850 you’ve been very helpful thank you. I won’t require any more responses now so please know this before reading this post as I probably won’t see your replies 🙂
- FinnBJun 03, 2018AspirantAntinode why would I give a list of all my devices that I’m using for setup in the future/ present when if you can see my topic/question is “would having a modem mean that a router becomes useless” and not in the title but I also asked whether or not I could plug in my PS4 to my modem. Again this topic has been solved and it was done without a massive list of my setup etc. Thanks for your time anyone who helped answer my question.

I was trying to determine how many routers you're using, because you
mentioned "a nighthawk router" and "the router provided by my provider".
I was worried about your modem(s), router(s), and/or modem+router(s),
not your client devices.
Cascading multiple routers can cause multiple problems, but if you
don't care, then I don't care.
