Firmware upgrade on wireless connection
Can a firmware upgrade be conducted from a wireless connected computer?
But people often caution against it. Better to do it wired if you can. Just in case the wifi cuts out or something goes wrong.
For example, one recent firmware flash for the D6400 killed the wifi on a tiny handful of those devices. You had to go in and mess around with a wired connection to get the wifi back in business.
That was an exceptional event, but serious enough to make me think twice about wireless updates.

With the quality of updates from netgear the Update is a bigger risk than the wireless.
If you're updating from the download support rather than the automatic router method a wired connection would be my choice BUT, when I update that way I save to a server which is a wired connection but perforum via wireless. Never had a problem in over 10 years.

I agree that it is better to update from a download than to rely on a "live" session.
You just have to tame any impatience and wait for the file to arrive on the support pages. This can be a couple of days after its shows as being available via the genie.
Then again, how often do you launch the genie? I can go for weeks without firing it up.
