Firmware V1.0.1.20_1.0.16 and Gene Access Stopped Working

Here's how I go about it:
- save (backup) settings
- flash firmware
If that works and you see no problems, great. If not, and something doesn't work,you may have to reset the device to the default settings:
- set to factory settings
- retrieve settings from backup
If that works and you see no problems, problem fixed! If not:
- set to factory settings.
- reconfigure everything
If that fails, then I fear that you may have to flash back to earlier firmware.
I think that going to a full reset is a bit drastic. I updated to the same version of firmware for the R6400|AC1750 Smart WiFi Router about 25 minutes ago and got the same page. I've had similar issues with previous upgrades. In general, the routing information within the system can get confused after firmware updates.
I went to my modem/gateway control panel and got the IP address of the Netgear router. My gateway is the typical 192.169.1.254 that so many gateways use, so the Netgear installation software changed the address of the router. I looked at the table of devices attached to my router and found the other IP. I entered the address of the router into the browser and the Netgear control panel popped right up.
I knew then that it was just a matter of confusion within the routing within my setup. In this case it took no more than restarting my browser to get everything to work right. In the past, I once had to unplug my modem/gateway, R6400, and ethernet switch, restarted the gateway, restarted the R6400, and then plugged the switch back in, and everything worked fine.
Doing a factory reset is a bit drastic. You have to re-enter a lot of information (or you can presave and reload the configuration). It may not be necessary to go that far.

True, but it is sometimes essential, especially if the alternative is to spend hours trying to fix something that gets broken by the new firmware.
The choice is up to the user. But they cannot really complain if they will not even try the reset to see if it fixes post-flash problems. I have presented a strategy that allows someone to see if a reset fixes a problem. If not, they can always go back to their earlier configuration, as you said.
