HELP! C3700 Modem Router not working with Verizon
Please help!
I’m at my wits end with Verizon. Don’t want to pay to ‘rent’ one of their routers so was given a c3700 combined modem WiFi router.
Can’t seem to get it working...the internet light just doesn’t come on. I’ve phoned Verizon repeatedly to get them to release the IP address and then check that they can ‘see’ my router but they claim they can’t do that only tell if there’s is no longer connected.
Eventually found a way of going onto the my Verizon pages myself and requested the release under DHCP lease myself.
Still no joy for my router. It’s using the same Ethernet port as previously.
Verizon tech claimed first that I need to go to ‘accept the terms and conditions’ with net gear which I think was just rubbish as it’s nowhere in the set up instructions. And I can only use the my genie app once the darn thing is transmitting WiFi.
Then she claimed the reasons it’s not working is that it’s a combined modem and router model and that my ONT port (pictured) acts as a modem and therefore I can’t just use the C3700 and have it work just as a wifi router (which is what I read online)
Any advice please on how to check whether my IP of previous router has actually been released? Also thoughts on whether the combined modem/router point is true? Do I just need to go and buy a stand-alone router?
Thanks. Frustrated of Virginia.

You have an ONT? You see a picture?

Who chose a C3700 for this installation? Why?

"using"? What, exactly, is connected to what, exactly? How much do you expect anyone here to know about your "previously"?
If you actually have an ONT as your Internet/ISP connection, then a
Netgear model Cxxxx would be approximately useless. In such a case,
you'd want a router (not a modem+router) with an Ethernet WAN/Internet
port (which a Netgear model Cxxxx lacks).

Seems likely.
