Thanks for the info, but the problem i am facing is that my base station is not a netgear router and was looking at an option if i can setup a connection between both of them using a wps option or any other option where my netgear router connects to the wifi in my home.

The brand does not matter. WPS is an industry standard. That's why you can use WPS to connect a printer for a phone to the wifi on a router. (Netgear doesn't make printers, or phones.) The R6220 supports WPS for those things.
The first question is does the R6220 work as a repeater? That's what plemans referred to.
As a basic device, it does not seem to. If it does, then plemans has told you where to find advice on setting it up.
The manual shows that you can Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point.
