How to find the router firmvare Version?
There are notes on this Forum that Netgear has updated "from the WEB" the firmware of some WNR2000v3 routers to the last and necessary version 1.1.2.14 so that the users do NOT need to do any update ...

With a wired (Ethernet) to my DELL desktop and Win 10 when a enter the 192.168.1.1. address I get a long list of links to articles by various (some questionable) sources but NOT a place where I can see a request for my user name and pass.
That address is a local one. It is on your network. It is not somewhere out in the Internet.
You should not need to go to 192.168.1.1
Did you try the other links?
http://www.routerlogin.com/
or
http://www.routerlogin.netJust click them. They are also local addresses, so no risk of nasties. They are Netgear's way of making it "easier" to get your browser to control your router.
