How to setup with minimum outage on Comcast service

Could you please advice on the best procedure for upgrade from Xfinity Cable modem to Orbi CBR40 minimizing service outage.

I expect outage when xfinity cable modem when incomming coax cable is switched to Orbi since new router is not activated by Comcast.

1. Will it be possible to activare Orbi without de-activating Xfinity  cable modem so I could fall back if Orbi does not work as expected?

2. Can firmware on Orbi be upgtraded while it is offline by connecting it as a secondary router to Xfinity router?

3. I expect problems with my devices that do not support 5GHs (only 2.4GHz) like thermostat or door bell. Does the newest FW allow to setup separate network for 2.4-only devices so Orbi would not try to connect such device to 5GHz network?

Also is there a way to assign WiFi devices to specific hotspot [Main router | Satelite(s)] so Orbi would not try to connect devices in poor coverage area to main (or satelite) dynamcally?

What does Xfinity say? It is responsible for the switch.

When it comes to changing the hardware at your end, it should take a few minutes.

You have posted your message in the section of this community given over to General WiFi Routers (Non-Nighthawk). (This is easily done, given Netgear's impenetrable community structure.)

As to the other questions, you might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers about your hardware, in the appropriate section for your device. That's probably here:

You can also visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

and feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

It will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device.
