Just some insights.... According to the C3000 N300 WiFi Cable Modem Router Data Sheet it does
- Cable Internet speeds up to 340 Mbps with 8 downstream & 4 upstream channels
- WiFi N300 2x2 (2.4 GHz)
- 2x Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports
To test the effective possible throughput, you have to use a computer with a Gigabit Ethernet port, connected to one of the Modem-Router combo LAN ports.
The N300 maximum possible link rate of 300 Mb/s is based on a 40 MHz wide channel usage, 2x2, 64-QAM, 5/6 FMI: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html#wifi4
"Android phone" is not very informative. Most budget phones, as well as many more expensive mobile phones, are typically supporting 1x1 for 2.4 GHz WiFi and 20 MHz bandwidh only. This translates to some 72.2 Mb/s link rate, leaving some 40 Mb/s in real world testing makes perfect sense.
