App for what? iOS? Android?

There is no such thing as a Netgear N300 model. Some old technology devices say they use N300 WiFi technology, but that label disappeared from sales guff a decade or more ago.

Netgear withdrew support for its Netgear Genie some years ago, when it introduced the Nighthawk App. This involved a firmware update that didn't include ancient routers, including most "N300s".

Your call. Depends on what the new service offers.

A lot has changed since 2013. If your new service is anywhere near modern standards, an old "N300" will give you hopeless WiFi. On top of that, few of those devices, and even fewer before 2015, have an Ethernet (wired) connection that is faster than 100 Mbps. The standard for most routers side around 2010 has been 1000 Mbps, but not for many N300s.

It may well be that your existing ISP already provides an Internet service that is better than your N300 router and that you are wasting money. But not knowing what device you own and what your ISP supplies, who knows?
