Someone had mentioned that IP Addresses beginning with 10 are for businesses and I am not a business.
Go back and tell "someone" that they don't know what they are talking about.
Most models in the Netgear range will explain that the 10.x.x.x address is a fall back when a router finds that there is already something on the 192.168.1.1 address.
I say most routers, but in the case of the R6120 we are talking about a router that is as basic as they get. Indeed, as I explained earlier, it is so basic that it is slower than most modern Internet services.
I am currently using the following: Netgear Wi-Fi Router Dual Band AC1200, Model No. R6120-100-NAS and Arris Surfboard DOCIS 3.0 Cable Modem, Model No. SB6183.
Standard cable only modem. No router. It has a 1000 Mbps Ethernet connection that is 10 times faster than your router can handle. If you pay for an Internet service faster than 100 Mbps, you are wasting money. (As I explained earlier.)
So my original IP Address was 192.xxx.x.x or xx. After uninstalling the Cox Router/Modem and reinstalling the Netgear/ Arris devices my IP Address now reads 10.xx.xx.x or xx.
You may see this because you have been changing things on your network. Devices have a habit of remembering old settings. To wipe those out, you can perform a "factory reset" on them.
How do I perform a factory reset on my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Sadly, that will do nothing to make your router go faster than 100 Mbps. The only solution there is a new router.
