Is WiFi Range Extender compatible with WiFi Cable Modem Router

I am trying to connect the WiFi Range Extender Essentials Edition, EX6120, to my N600 WiFi Cable Modem Router Model C3700. 

Are these two compatible?  When trying to connect on the laptop, I was getting a message that I am not connected to my WiFi's extended network.

    they should setup. 

    Have you tried installing the extender using the installation assistant?

    where is it failing in the process?

    What are the led's on the extender showing?
