"Issue with LAN Light Blinking After Failed Firmware Update on Netgear R6120"

After a failed attempt to update my Netgear R6120 modem, I noticed that the internet and LAN light keeps blinking on and off continuously. I have already tried restarting the modem and checking the cables, but the issue persists. I would appreciate assistance in restoring the firmware or identifying the cause of the problem."

  • How was the FW being updated to the router? Thru the NH app or manually using a wired PC and web browser with the downloaded FW file unpacked from the .zip file?

Ouch. A manual update is less liable to lead to problems.

How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

You can also use that approach to roll back to earlier firmware, but that isn't likely to fix the issue.

What does the power LED look like?

You say "the internet and LAN light keeps blinking" , some LEDs blink to show that they are carrying traffic.

Apart from the blinking lights, is your router working as expected?

By the way, if you have an Internet service that delivers more than 100 Mbps, your router can't handle it. According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware. This may not matter to you, but be warned that it will hobble you if you ever sign up for faster Internet, anything faster than 100 Mbps is a waste of your money.

It also slows down whatever is going on in your local network. Newer devices support at least 1000BASE-TX.
