Looking for wireless routers!

Hi everyone!

I’d really appreciate some advice on wireless routers. I’m currently on ADSL2+ with Telstra and running their standard router. Attached to that I have an Arlo Base Station and an Apple Time Capsule, both through ethernet cables. The Arlo Base Station is about 1m away from the Telstra router and the Time Capsule is at the opposite end of the house.

I’ve suffered some really slow internet recently (even slower than normal snail-paced ADSL) and been getting like 2.6 MBPS. Got the Telstra guy in today and he found some faults at the exchange. He then plugged his little machine into my Telstra modem and was reading 8 MBPS, but when I do a speedtest on my iphone I get 5.6 MBPS on the Time Capsule’s signal and 2.6-ish on the Telstra router signal. When I turn the Arlo system off my Telstra router gives me similar speeds to my Time Capsule.

I don’t know much about these things but it seems to me that I lose a lot of speed on the router equipment I have and I was wondering if there would be an improvement if I got a better Netgear router that I can run my Telstra broadband through and can plug my Arlo system and Time Capsule in too. I also need to know if I am still ‘future-proof’ by doing this (if it will help me) as I will likely get NBN at the end of the year - I assume I will still need a wifi router with NBN?

Thanks in advance for your time and advice!
