moving router to new desktop

Moving router to new desktop. Should the software be downloaded and installed prior to conencting the router? Been awhile. Thanks

Did you buy a new desk, or are you talking about connecting a new
    computer to your old router?

Are you talking about some "the software" for your router, or for
    your "new desktop"?

    > Model: WNDR4300|N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router

       Is that accurate?

It's not clear what you're really doing, but, in general, you can't
update the software (usually referred to as "firmware") in the router
until it's connected to a computer, so I'd simply connect the stuff
first, and worry about downloading and installing things until after
    something works.

Try a refresher course.  Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in
your model number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.
    Read.  Look for "firmware".
