N300 Wireless Router WNR2000v3 update firmware possible?
I'm tech challenged. Bought the router in 2012. Never updated it (didn't know i have to). Is it possible to update the firmware to the latest version supported and it so, how do i find the download...

Sure is.
How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
It is pretty painless process. Don't be intimidated.
I'm afraid my security has been a time bomb waiting to detonate.
Your router is pretty old, from 2010, based on an even older V1 original.
There is newer firmware for it, but the specifications are ancient. No 5 GHz wifi, and LAN speeds limited to 100 Mbps.
Fine if you have a slow Internet service a minimal needs, bit not great for anything else.

You can update firmware over wifi, but that can be risky. If the wifi falls over in the process, you can wreck your device.
It will also depend on what you plan to use for the wifi. This is not something I would do with a phone. But if it is a laptop, then you can use that to get at routerlogin.net:

- Mangroves08Jul 18, 2023AspirantThanks. What about the security of this router? Do you recommend buying a new one? We don’t do any gaming. Just watch videos on social media.
