I have 500 mb on my Wi-Fi, so will my router and modem N600 handle the 5OO or do I need a bigger router and modem??

N600 is an ancient router and many generations behind, so no, it won't handle. You did not say what your modem is.
(PS: N300 is a speed, not router model)

I have a modern and router built in one, it’s a N600 802.11 dual band gigabit, built in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem….. so if this won’t hold speed of 500 mbps then want to you recommend that’s not to expensive, I want a dual band. Thanks
- microchip8Oct 23, 2023MasterI'm not sure about which model you're talking. At first I thought your N600 is the WNDR3400 model. Now you say it also has a modem which makes it a Gateway. Again, N600 is a speed *not* modem or router model. Look underneath on the label which is says Model.
That said, if the modem is docsis 3.0, it can handle 500 Mbps. I do not know about the router part since, as I said, I don't know your device's model.- SaddieOct 23, 2023AspirantIt’s a Netgear N600 WI-FI cable modem and router…. (Dual band 300t300) range…it saids cable modem speed up to 340 Mbps… 8 x 4 channeling bonding
- microchip8Oct 23, 2023MasterWell, if it says that, then no, it can't handle the speed you ask about. It's too old. Time to catch up to current technology 🙂

There is a chance that you can keep the modem/router and put it into bridge (modem only) mode.

Netgear has made several cable modem/routers over the years. For example, one N600 device is the C3700. This has a Gigabit Ethernet connection that runs at 1000 Mbps, so it can feed a new router that runs at that speed.
To see if you can add a router to your modem/router, check the manual.

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
Look for the model number on the label on the device.
Look for a the section in the manual Cable Your Modem Router to a Router. If you decide to replace the modem, most experienced users would suggest buying a separate modem and router. In that way you can replace the router bit should you ever want an even flashier wifi setup.
