Need help setting up my Cable Modem CM500 as my 'in home' network
I have had my modem for over a year, it was never set up as my in home network. Apparently I have been using WiFi hotspots instead. Would like to get some help setting this up, but hit a roadblock everywhere I go!

What, exactly, does "my in home network" mean to you?
A CMxxx is a _modem_, not a combination modem+wireless_router. If
you want to use wireless devices (or multiple devices) with it, then you
need some kind of router (a wireless router for wireless devices).> Would like to get some help setting this up, but hit a roadblock

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read. Look for
"Connect Your Cable Modem to a Router".Elaborate on "roadblock"? The non-psychics in your audience can't
see what you're doing, or what happens when you do it.- SNJMAspirant
I haven't really had any issues with the modem (I was told it was a modem/router in one), it's been installed for almost 2 years. I usually have no trouble connecting to my devices. Occasionally, I won't be able to connect to my iPad, and I just reset the modem and restart the iPad and that solves the problem. I have been having issues connecting all my devices (Smartphone, iPad & laptop) since last evening & contacted Xfinity this morning. After restarting the modem about 3 different times, it checked out fine. They asked what networks I was using to connect to the internet, and both were Xfinity networks. They wanted to know why the Netgear modem wasn't setup as one of my Networks (in home) on my iPad, and I didn't have an answer. Not sure why that didn't happen during installation? Apparently I have been using 'hotspots' to connect to the internet? He gave me the phone number for Customer Service for Netgear, but since I have had my Modem for over 90 days, they can't offer any assistance (roadblock), other then to ask the community. I tried going to their website for help, but it just wanted me to download something called Nighthawk (roadblock). No, I have not tried wikipedia, but thanks I will. Currently, I am able to connect to the WiFi again, but wonder if I had my Modem setup as Xfinity suggested, if it wouldn't alleviate this problem. Thanks for all the advice.

"told" by whom?
I've been told many things, not all of which were true. If you don't
believe me, just look at the "Cable Modem CM500" documentation, and see
if it says "modem" or "modem+router". (Or look at your "Cable Modem
CM500", and see if it really says "CM500".)To what is your CM500 connected? Any more than power and a co-axial
cable?> [...] download something called Nighthawk [...]
Not likely to help if you don't have a compatible router. (Or any
router.)> [...] I am able to connect to the WiFi again, [...]
_Which_ "the WiFi"? If you power off your CM500, does that affect
your Wi-Fi connection (to whatever)?> [...] Apparently I have been using 'hotspots' to connect to the

be invisible to me. If all the network equipment you have is a CM500
(which contains no router, and has no wireless capability), and you're
connecting to wireless networks with the name (SSID) "xfinitywifi" or
"XFINITY", then I'd guess that you're using your (Comcast-customer)
neighbors' wireless routers (rather than your own not-a-wireless-router
CM500).https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/about-xfinity-wifi-internet

I don't see how you can configure your own wireless network(s) if you
have only a modem, and no wireless router.
You seem to have a trailer, but no car. The reason you can't start
its engine is that it has none.
