Needed help making adjustments to my router & changing automated channel

Hello, I'm new to this community and don't know much about routers at all, but I've been experiencing random drops in my internet connection since August even though I'm still getting a wifi signal. I spoke with a customer representative who told me that I needed to purchase a plan in order to get help, but I was unsure if I really needed to do this (due to the language barrier). I had originally called Spectrum, and they instructed me to call Netgear support in order to make adjustments to my router, to find out if it was 2G or 5G, and to change its channels (I was told automated channels are no good, and to request that the channel be changed instead to 1, 6 or 11). So all you experts out there, in order to "fix" this problem, do I need to actually spend the $90 for 6 months or is this a problem I can troubleshoot myself? Thank you for your time, any help is greatly appreciated!
