Netgear 3400 v1
So, old Netgear router 3400 (no V, so really ancient) toddled along with equally ancient Netgear modem CM600 on Xfinity network.
I have the 500 mbps plan w/ Xfinity and needless to say, was not getting anything close. So, I upgraded the modem to a Hitron Coda, activated it w/Xfinity and my HW laptop is great.
Issue is the router.... says connected to my network but no internet connection. I can't even log into the router anymore to see if there's something I need to re set; and I also discovered that Hitron doesn't allow access to the modem GUI (all I get is connection failed, too long to respond).
Since I've also ordered a new router (Asus RT-AX1800s) which won't arrive until late tonight, should I just give up attempting to get the Netgear router to connect?

3400 is not a Netgear model number. There is the WNDR3400 from 2010.

The CM600, from 2015, should be able to handle 500 Mbps. But the WNDR3400 has 100 Mbps LAN ports while the CM600 can put out 1 Gbps.
So you may have upgraded the wrong bit of your network.
Then there is the Hitron Coda. Which one? A basic modem or a modem/router?

Thanks for the response!
Yes, the old modem was a netgear CM600 & the router is/was netgear N600 wndr3400. The issue was really slow speeds (both HW & WIFI), with almost non existent coverage to one room diagonal to the computer room. Speed & coverage were getting worse (I even tried an extender for coverage).
New modem is Coda (no model number on box it came in, or on the modem itself), it says 3.1 Docsis cable modem.
The new router is the ASUS which hasn't arrived yet.
From what you are saying though, is that the current Netgear router SHOULD work when connected to the new modem, yes?
It also irks me that I can't log into either the modem or netgear firmware, but that's another story I suppose.

The 100 Mbps limit on the modem to router traffic is the limit, not what the modem can get out of the Internet. And everything connected to the outside world has to share that 100 Mbps. No surprise that things are slowing down.
An extender might cover a bigger area, but it wouldn't speed things up. It just adds to the number of things that share that 100 Mbps link to the Internet.
The CM600 can talk ti the router at 1000 Mbps, which is faster than your 400 Mbps connection.
From what you are saying though, is that the current Netgear router SHOULD work when connected to the new modem, yes?Yes, as long as that modem is just a modem, but you'll have to reset the wndr3400 and set it up to work with the new router and Internet service.
