netgear ac1000 drpopping connection to modem
I have a AC1000 set up at my mum's apartment. She doesn't need the bells and whistles.
Lately it's been dropping the signal from the modem. I'm wondering if it needs a firmware update. I doubt it's been updated since I bought it.
With that said, can I update the firmware via the nighthawk app on my phone? She doesn't have a pc to download a zip file to send to the modem.

Which model does she have? AC1000 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AC tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.
Look at the label on the device for the model number. Could it be R6080?
How fast is her Internet service? Anything over 100 Mbps is a waste of money. That router can't handle it.
If it is the R6080 it is Netgear's bottom of the range and has LAN and WAN connections limited to 100 Mbps.

The R6080 now supports the Nighthawk app,

The problem may be that if this is the original release, you need to update the firmware before that will work. The manual refers to the Netgear genie app. That is no longer available from Netgear, but you can locate the Android version:
NETGEAR Genie APKs - APKMirror
Manuals are always a good place to start.

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
You may have done that already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
