Netgear Genie - File Sharing

I'm currently using a CG3000D cable gateway through the Netgear Genie app.  The app allows me to share files with any device connected to the network.  In my PC, I have a few movies which I can access from any of my devices (smart TVs, phones, tablets) as long as they are connected to the network and have the Netgear Genie App.

I would like to upgrade my equipment and I tried new modems using the nighthawk app but this feature is not available.  Is there a step I might be missing here or is this a feature which is really not available in the new upgraded software?

That is a 10 year old cable modem/router. It predates things like ReadyShare, which is probably the moderm version of what you want. Hard to tell from your description.

That device was sold directly to Charter ISP and came with no support from Netgear.

    What does this mean:

The app allows me to share files with any device connected to the network.

Files connected how? USB? Ethernet? Wifi?

What is the network? You local things? The Internet? Both are possible.

Then there is the "genie app". That could be one of several things. There used to be a genie app for mobile devices. But that isn't something mentioned in the manual for your  CG3000D.

The other genie is a program ("app" in Windows talk) that runs on a Windows/Mac PC. Netgear wants that to die, but it is sill there if you can find it.

Depending on what you mean, the nearest thing to the feature you describe, and something that I use all the time, may be ReadyCLOUD. That lets you share USB storage devices over the Internet.

To share local files, you just need to set up ReadySHARE on your local network. That but into just about any router or modem/router that supports USB storage.

So , ReadyCLOUD and ReadySHARE are the things to look for in routers.

Modem/routers fo those too, but experienced users like to keep the modem and router functions separate. That gives you a much better choice of routers and he features they support.
