Would like to connect the Netgear R6020 inside the trailer via ethernet cable to the satellite Orbi in the nearby main house. Will that work?
You haven't told us what the Orbi devices are, so we don't know if they support routers connected in AP mode. The R6020 does support that mode.
How do I change my NETGEAR router to AP mode? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
However, you should know that the R6020 is a pretty basic router.
According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware. This may not matter to you, but be warned that it will hobble you if you ever sign up for faster Internet, anything faster than 100 Mbps is a waste of your money.

Maybe one more thing to be said. At that previous residence, we plugged that same R6020 into our main router in order to get service inside the trailer. It worked well for that. Maybe that says if it is in AP mode already or not. Hope that helps.

When you add a device to the network, it will try to adapt its own settings to avoid conflicts. The R6020 probably didn't go into AP mode, but it picked router settings that did not fight with the other router.
You could try that simply by resetting the R6020 and connecting it to the Orbi and setting it up from scratch. It might work.
