Netgear R6400v2 : cannot add another fixed IP for my NAS

Hi all,

I'm using a Netgear r6400v2 with firmware V1.0.4.106_10.0.80
I have setup my router to act as a DHCP server and I have setup a large range of IP from 192.168.1.2 to 198.168.1.254. I know it's probably too much but it's probably not why I'm facing an issue.

To have a clean mapping of my connected devices, I have assigned ranges to some specific devices.
I have 3 raspberries in the range 192.168.1.5x
I have 2 NAS in the range 192.168.1.10x
and a couple of other devices (around 30 devices are connected in total)
This mapping works fine.

I have purchased another NAS which I would like to add to the 192.168.1.10x range but no matter what IP I choose, the router always tell me that the chosen IP is in conflict with the WAN network. I don't understand why, I have no other device connected LAN or WAN in that IP range. I have tried other ranges outside the one I want and I get the same message. I even tried to move a connected device to the list of fixed IP device by using the same IP it was already using and I get always the same message.

It used to work, I don't understand why it's not working anymore.

Any idea?

Thanks!

  • The best way to do this is to set you IP address pool size on the router to something like 192.168.1.100 to .200.

Then go to your NAS devices and set a STATIC IP address ON the NAS thats outside of the pool range seen above. Something like 192.168.1.20

Have a static IP address ON the NAS means the IP will never change and you'll be able to access them with a known IP address. How I have my two NAS and printers configured.

I have tried this too but no matter what I do, when I click on validate it even refuses the ones I previously configured while those Ip work perfectly fine. It's like the process of validating is broken. I have also tried to upgrade my firmware but it doesn't help.

Is this Validating being done on the NAS? if so, make sure the values and configuration are correct. Contact the Mfr of the NAS for help and support information regarding there product. Static IP addressing should work.
