Nighthawk Router in commercial lobby setting
Hi, we are switching from ATT to Hotwire in a commercial office building lobby setting. The internet is now provided by Hotwire. We have installed the Nighthawk router #AC1200. To install it, we had ...

Not sure what hotwire is.
1.Does it come with a gateway/modem device that you connect the router to?
2. AC1200 is a speed, not a model. What actual router do you have?
3. You can setup the router using the browser and not a personal device. You could simply factory reset it and reinstall using the browser. when it comes to the page that says "netgeaer recommends the app...." at the bottom of the page theres a link you can click on to continue and not use the app/phone.

1) No.
2) The Model is R6120.
3) Does this require keeping a computer in that mechanical room 24-7? Or can I do this using a portable laptop?

A word of warning about that device, it is pretty well Netgear's bottom of the range router. If you have a new ISP, there's a chance that it will slow you down.
According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware. It slows down whatever is going on in your local network. Newer devices support at least 1000BASE-TX.
The bit about wifi lost when the app leaves the building is odd.
How does this router connect to the Internet. What is the modem/gateway in front of it?
As microchip8 says, you don't need an app to set the thing up. It is better done with a wired PC.
A mobile app can be useful for things like Anywhere Access to manage and monitor the device, but again this router seems to be too basic to support that.
