No internet

WNR1000v4

Got a new job where they use only Ethernet but no wifi. Bought the above router. Ethernet works fine. Signs is good when Ethernet is plugged into above model but it is not providing internet. Internet light does not light up. Will not allow me to set up. Any help is appreciated.
  • Best check with the IT department first sounds like a private network the computers may even have static a ip address for each one including any other devices connected to the network and may even monitor the network traffic and  a lot of companies have rules against private routers on their network dependig on your job they may not want wifi in the office for network security reasons and another reason  a home grade router lacks the strong security a business office needs on their network.

If allow they will set it up the way they are willing to allow it to work.

Your new job is not worth losing over a wifi router if not permitted by rules of job place.

Sorry may not be the magic answer you wanted to hear but worth listerning too.

  • Thank you. That makes sense to me. Nothing in handbook about it and had permission from supervisor. I will check with IT.

    Thanks again.
