hitting 130-144mbps over 2.4ghz is actually outstanding. 

Link speeds aren't throughput speeds and 2.4ghz is a slow network. I'm actually impressed if you did hit those speeds. 

there's been numerous articles/sites written up about this. 

I'd read a bit on Duckware because its highly education about wifi speeds/expectations.
