Does this prevent you from connecting the the Network? Or is it just an annoying message?

If that doesn't work, while Apple likes to run the word, no one has yet given it the keys to the planet. Your iPhone causes this problem, so you really need to ask Apple what you are supposed to do to carry on using your expensive kit.
Your R6020, from around 2017, is pretty well Netgear's most basic router. It is so slow that if you have an Internet connection that is faster than 100 Mbps you are wasting your money. That's the top speed for this model.
According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware.
