michaelkenward -- Speed, when successfully connected to the internet, seems to be fine. The issue is that half of the devices (mostly mobile devices) will connect to the network but then report that there isn't any internet. I recently discovered that if I turn on a vpn on these devices I can then access the internet.

Long story short, I don't know. I'm staying in a friends house for the summer and they aren't around to ask. My current speed, with a running vpn is ~15Mbps Download / ~9Mbps Upload. These seem good and I'd be happy with these speeds if we could get all of our devices to connect to the internet.

OK. Nothing that would strain the router, but almost 20th Century.
The "staying in a friends house" is challenge. Who knows what they have done to their home network?
