R6100 Connectivity Issue Microsoft/Adobe Updates

CMD31T modem, R6100 router, Windows 7 sp1. Browsers work fine. Microsoft and Adobe update processes (background process, independent of browsers) fail- cannot connect to the internet. What do I have to adjust/set to get the update processes to connect? The first image below was generated by the MS Excel activation p[rocess. The second image is the same problem with Adobe.
