R6220 unable to configure connected devices
Hi I'm new to this forum, I have a question regarding R6220, I hope this is still a valid product to ask about (or if not I'd like to know what is the current recommended model) My question, or ...

The appearance of the GUI in Netgear's Nighthawk app depends on the firmware. Older devices won't look quite the same as new stuff. Here is what I see in the MR90.
- Basic
- Attached Devices

You should see something similar. That is certainly the pattern in my old R7800.
If you are using Windows, the old Netgear Genie lets you rename devices.

Netgear wants to kill it – which is why it is hidden away on the support pages – but some of us diehards like it. This has a Network Map
Click a device and then Modify.

Hello and thanks for the reply.
I am not sure how this would help, since I am accessing my router directly through a wired (LAN) connection via http, so I believe that whatever connectivity my router has between it and some other services would not be relevant?
But to try to answer the question anyway, I'm connected to the city local network (for households), so it's not a modem or dialup but a fibre-connection, it has higher speeds but to me it is presented as a 500 Mbps LAN, but yes there is an external/extra "box" (I'm actually not sure whether a switch or a router), which connects to the central switch for the whole neighborhood. These "boxes" are not accessible to me since they're provided by the internet service provider but they've been in place for some 10'ish years. (I'm assuming they of course also upgrade their firmware and such stuff, but that would apply to any device on the internet, and again, those boxes are not placed between my computer/webbrowser and my router and it's admin web interface).
So it's more like this
My PC --> LAN/wired connection --> My router --> LAN/wired connection --> ISP
Best regards
Mike

I asked the question because it is extremely relevant. Without an answer, no one can help you much.
Troubleshooting is a case of ruling out the obvious suspects, the "two router" gotcha, and moving on to the next possibility.

This information, missing from your first message, lands us in unfamiliar territory for most problems with routers. These usually connect with a modem or a "gateway", a box that is both router and modem.
Your setup, similar to what you will see on many "campus" sites, means that we don't now where to look for the router bit of your network.
That you are not sure if this is a switch or a router is where the problem begins. If it is a router, then you are adding a router to a router. That is a bad idea.

Have you asked your ISP what you should do to add another router to its network?
Have you tried using the R6220 in access point (AP) mode? That disables the router bit of the R6220.
As I said, you do not have a typical network topology that is easy to diagnose.
There are other issues in your first message. My first response was an attempt to rule out one of the most obvious sources of problems.
You later asked:
Is naming of devices and configuring default access mode no longer supported or supposed to work, or am I doing something wrong?
The answer to the first bit is no. You should still be able to name devices and manage access, if that's what you mean.
You may not be doing anything wrong. But it depends on the front end of your network and how you connect to the internet.

Hello again. Let me rephrase my question since I'm not sure if I was unclear in my initial post.
I am not looking to troubleshooting routing or connectivity, the router basic networking works fine.
What I am looking for is functionality that is no longer working in the administration of connected clients.
What I mean is that I can no longer allow or deny connections as I like, or name connections.
But pictures can often illustrate the issue better, let me try to upload two images to hopefully show what I'm looking for, even if they're in Swedish and the text maybe not fully readable but I'll explain.
First, the settings menu does not seem to work, the startpage (connected devices) says it's enabled, (åtkomstkontroll: på means access control: on)
But when going to the settings under the access control page, it is not checked and checking the box does not work, for some reason I can't save it.And thirdly, what I'm primarily trying to do is to name the devices, as over the time the family gets new devices, and I'd like to name them to know who they are, since there's also accidental attempts to connect from neighbours, which I'd like to prevent. And as shown in the 4th column, only one device is named, since it's been around for ages, the others are more recent. (Okänt = unknown)
I believe the way to name them either previously had its own link (in which case I can't find it) or was located under Access Control, (which doesn't show status correctly)?
Best regards
Mike

I am not convinced.
The features available on your router depend on how the R6220 and the rest of the network manage routing and connectivity.

Thanks for that clarification! That at least in part answers my question, the features should be there, and have not been removed. So I can focus on troubleshooting further rather than replacing the router as deprecated.
I can't find how you do the quotes, but in response to your saying
"The features available on your router depend on how the R6220 and the rest of the network manage routing and connectivity."
I could try to get in touch with the city ISP to clarify their setup, but what more specifically am I looking for with them?
If the router needs internet connecttivity for the admin management page to work, what should I check for, does it need to access some specific internet IP adress or port at Netgear or elsewhere for the management to work?Again, to illustrate, this is the page I'm looking at, and even though I can select one or more devices, the buttons for remove ("ta bort"), add ("lägg till") and edit ("redigera") will only grey out or light up, they can't be pressed, nothing happens at all if I select a device and for example press edit/"redigera"
For reference, here (the red section) is the error that gets logged in the browser when I select a device and try to click "edit"
Am I looking in the wrong place, or is it as you suggest the router is not working properly?
Any thoughts on what else I could look for ?
Best regards
Mike
