r6220 USB TLS access
All I am trying to find out is if there is a way to access storage connected to the USB port on the R6220 router. Currently it is using TLS V1 and searching this forum I can't find any reference to t...

O.K. so it is a router.. My bad. Connecting a USB drive to the USB port is straight forward.... Now have you ever tried to have someone external to you home network, HTTPS to your external network, on port 443 (or any other port you select in the USB config)? They will get an error complaining that the the browser doesn't support the protocol. That protocol is TLS, Transportation Layer Security. V1 is not supported and that is what the R6220 uses.
I was going to use this drive to send and receive files from one of my children out of state.

Not just a router but one of Netgear's older (2016) and least capable routers.
What you want to achieve used to be dead easy. Then Netgear killed ReadyCLOUD, which was there to do just what you want.
You could investigate the use of OpenVPN access to your network.
Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
Search the manual for OpenVPN.But that can be a bit fiddly to set up.

Cloud services are pretty good for that purpose. Some have free access for a limited amount of data.
