R6250 firmware update alert

I received email boasting "We've Enhanced Your Product's Security. Please Update to the Latest Firmware." The router's update feature didn't find a new version, so I looked on the Netgear website and found the latest version to be 1.0.4.48, which is already installed in my router. The release notes for that version were last updated 01/05/2021. So, what is new?

  • Doesn't look like anything other than security updates.

Seems like every several months, Netgear sends out these updates even if people are updated already.

    I'd disregard it.

      Thank you, plemans, for replying.

It seems like a disservice for Netgear to broadcast the availability of new firmware when there has not been any change! Oh well.

It certainly does not make much sense.

In the absence of a more "intelligent" email system that really does respond to new firmware, I see it as more of a "check your firmware" suggestion.

The problem, is that many users install a device and then ignore it until something goes wrong. So they end up with ancient firmware that may leave them vulnerable to attacks by evil people.

Not everybody keep their eye on firmware updates.

Did that email come with an "unsubscribe" option? MIght be worth clicking that if you are careful to keep your device up to date. But they come so rarely that it is hardly a great imposition simply to delete them.
