A better choice would a high grade gigabit network switch the type used by larger companies they come up to hugh number of ports and handle gigabit speeds no problem most are rack mount design if your plaining 12 runs for now get 16 to 20 port model for just incase you add another run can not hurt to have few spare.

Cisco and Netgear both make good high end switchies check some manage and some unmanaged manage switchies lets you control the switch via a computer to control its ports. An unmanaged is like what you would find at most places that sales network switchies for home user plug them and connect your network and away you go.
