R6400 as a range extender
Hi,
I am trying to extend the wi-fi coverage of the router provided by my internet provider with an R6400 netgear router. The main question is:
- Is this possible at all?
I have switched R6400 to bridge mode:
- Connecting with LAN cable attached to R6400 to internet works
- I guess I am not able to connect to R6400 via Wi-Fi (my MacBook says that the network is not available and R6400 is right next to it)
- I am not able to login into R6400 anymore - connecting via LAN cable and inputing routerlogin.net times-out.. How does one connect to a bridge without a dedicated port for administration?
Cheers..
A couple things.
1. the R6400 doesn't have a repeater/extender mode.
2. In bridge mode, the wifi is used exclusively to go from router----router. If its in bridge mode, you'd need to log into the primary router to get the r6400's ip address
3. You can hardwire the r6400 in and use it in access point mode. Then you can use its wifi. You could hardwire it in using ethernet, powerline, or even a moca adapter.

Thanks!
That's exactly what needed. There's an abundance of information on what the router can do, but there is none on what it cannot do. [it] "doesn't have a repeater/extender mode" is all I was looking for.
Cheers..
Good luck!
