R6400 disappointing speeds with fiber
Just got Gateway fiber over the weekend. We're paying for 600 Mbps, but only getting around 200 or 300. When the Nighthawk is out of the equation (computer hardwired to the modem) we get speeds at 600.
We've called Gateway fiber and they think it's the router. We've reset the router and still having issues. Router is about 2 feet from modem. Any other suggestions on settings to change?
Gateway fiber does offer a free router, but they're currently having issues with support on that, so I'd rather use the Nighthawk if we can get this figured out.

Measured how? Wired? Wifi?
What device that sits between the router and the Internet?
While the R6400 should handle 600 Mbps it is now an ageing device (2015) and predates these faster Internet services.

Nothing is sitting between modem and router.
We're measuring speeds with various speed test websites that we know of and that Gateway fiber recommended we use also. All the speed tests are around the same number. Some of our devices are on wifi and some wired...all getting the same speeds.
If a computer is wired directly to the modem, we get 600.
Yes, this is an older router, but the stats say it can handle these speeds and more!
I've seen people talk about changing things in the settings, so that's more my question. Is there something I need to try changing to get better speeds?

I asked what sits between the router and the Internet.
Your modem sits between the Internet and the router and is what we need to know about. What is it? Make and model?

As long as you have set up the Internet connection correctly, there are few settings that you can change that would influence your wired speed out of the router.
You could try running the Internet Connection wizard on the router, and check that you are feeding it with the right details.
When someone changes their Internet service, the usual first move is to reset the router to forget any older settings, but you say you have done that already.

It is odd that wired and wifi have similar speeds. Wifi speeds of 200 to 300 Mbps are not unreasonable with that router and many wifi clients.
Wired, using a PC and something like the SpeedTest desktop app, should be much nearer the speed you pay for.
