R6400 newby optimize wireless speeds any setting config needed?

Hi thanks for your helpful reply, so first I am trying to boost my speed because I am paying for 300Mbps and I am only getting 100Mbps, but when I plug my laptop wired I get thos 300+ speeds that I want, but not getting close to half the speed with wireless.

Second I have a qualcomm atheros 956x wireless card built in my laptop this laptop is fairly new 8 months old too so it should be able to push those speeds, and with this card it cant find the 5g only 2.4 so im ok with that.

Third I think it is my settings, or firewall I do not know how to turn off the firewall of the router? So I think its settings I must be doing  something wrong with it.  Tried changing channels and stuff and found out ch.6 is the best at 120Mbps.  

Thank you for the quick reply, could you give me some settings to change or firewall to turn off on this router for some examples, that would really make my day.

I have timed outs what does that mean and how can I fix it?  Thank thank thank you for all your guys help, and time in trying to teach me how to fix this problems or a great learning experience.
