R6400 not recognized as bridge by R6700

Hello and thanks for reading:

I've got a 6400v1 with latest firmware (1.0.4.102) that I'm trying to use as a bridge off of a R6700 v2 with the latest firmware (1.2.0.74) that is my primary router and gateway.  My intention - connect 6700 in one room wirelessly to the 6400 in another room which would provide hardwired connection via lan ports to smart devices and consoles.

I've followed the directions exactly as prescribed in the user manual for setting up a bridge.  I've also tried setting it up as an AP and neither have been recognized by the 6700.  The 6400 appears to accept the changes fine as evidenced by the settings changing, but it doesn't appear to be receiving the signal from the 6700 and the 6700 is not recognizing it as being an attached device.  I've triple checked the password and gateway ip address of the 6700 were entered correctly on the 6400 and even tried it with the firewall off on my main computer and still nothing.  Additionally, I can't login to both routers on the same computer as routerlogin website prompts me for password for the 6700.  Even if I use different IP addresses (i have given 6700 a different ip login address and the 6400 has the standard 192.168.1.1 address) to try and login it still directs me to the 6700.  Direct connecting from the 6700 lan to the 6400 wan port i couldn't login to the 6400 either as its still prompts for the 6700 login info.  The only way I've been able to login to the 6400 was hardwire it in on another computer that didn't have wireless access to the 6700 and make changes there.  I've confirmed that the 6400 works as I was able to set it up as a gateway and have it transmit internet wirelessly, so i know it works, i just can't get it recognized by the 6700.

Any ideas on what I can try to get the 6700 to recognize the 6400?

Thanks in advance!

  • I asked Netgear for support but they said they couldn't help me unless I paid for technical support so that is why I am turning to the experts in this forum
