R6400 Router Firmware Update warning: All existing internet connections will be terminated.

When I click on "Upload" during the firmware upgrade process, a window pops up warning that "All existing internet connections will be terminated." Is it safe to continue?

    Yes.

The upgrade process has to rewrite the router's internal software. It can't do that while it is connected to the Internet.

At the end of the process it will restart the router to complete the update.

You may also have to reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash.

New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.

So a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have problems with new firmware.

Backup your configuration first. Netgear does not advises restoring old settings into new firmware, but if resetting does not fix your problem, and you have complicated settings, you might want to restore them.
