I have a NAS, 3 Windows PCs, 2 Linux laptops, 1 Windows laptop, 2 Raspberry Pis, running hundreds of apps, and more than a dozen smart devices attached to my router. I don't have the time or inclination to do a risk assessment on all firmware and software updates. I just do them all and trust that the firmware and software developers are competent. If I find that they aren't, I move on quickly to those who are. Survival of the fittest - learned the hard way from more than 30 years of personal computing.
