Reuse/Recycle Old Router and Extender

I just replaced my old Nighthawk X6, AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router, model R8000, and Nighthawk WiFi Range Extender AC1900, model EX7000 with the new Orbi Mesh system.

Is the old equipment worth anything to be donated somewhere?  If so, where (e.g. Goodwill) and do I need to do anything to the equipment to clear it of my local information before I donate it?

If not, is the equipment recyclable? If so, to whom would I take it to be recycled? or just throw it in the trash?

See if you can find a taker. As to wiping out information:

That works for just about every device.

Depends on where you are. In Europe there are regulations on these things and most stores and suppliers have recycling route.

Here in the UK our local council will collect this stuff if put out alongside the regular garbage bins.

Just another user with time on their hands.

  • michaelkenward has steered you correctly. But I probably wouldn't throw it away. They're both old equipment, but people still use old N300/N600 stuff. It'd be an upgrade for them. We frequently recommend users upgrade when they don't realize their equipment is bottlenecking their system.

maybe alpha754293 would be interested in your wares after not being able to fix their older N600 setup 🙂

BWhittAs for your OP -- you can see if there are eWaste places that are local in your area.

Sometimes, some of them will take the stuff for free, especially, if it is still working.

At my work, once a year, they have like a free eWaste day where there will be volunteers that will unload whatever eWaste you've got and it's free.

At my local municipal solid waste management facility, I think that they charge something like $6 CAD to take eWaste. Not really 100% sure. But in either case, I just wait for the annual eWaste day at work and dispose of it that way. Got rid of a bunch of really old servers that I still had laying around last year. Forgot other systems, so I'll be hitting those up probably this year.
