Serial Number is already registered, what to do?

I have bought a preowned NetGear router, and the serial number is already registered.

How do I get to register my router?

You can check with the old owner and see if they'll deregister it.

Potentially you can contact netgear support.

Is there something you need it registered for? Its still useable without being registered.

      That's a key question.

You may need to register it to be able to use the Netgear App. It need a way into the cloud service. That doesn't need a serial number. If you can do that already then there is nothing to be gained by registering.

Some of the services that needed registration, such as free parental control ReadyCLOUD and remote management, no longer work. Netgear pulled the plug on them a while back.
